Celine Returns

February 13, 2010 by The Vegas Tourist

Did Celine Dion get a clue?  Buy a brain?  Or could it be that her husbands gambling habit is now under control??  Either way, she is returning “home” in March of 2011 to Las Vegas and the palace Caesars built for her.

This time the three-year deal has some sanity built into it.  Gone are her demands of ultra high-ticket prices for everyone.  Wonder if Garth Brooks new gig had any influence on that one.  Seats begin at $55.  Yes, that’s two numbers left of the decimal, instead of her old three.  The Coliseum doesn’t have a bad seat in the place. So even the nose bleed seats I’ve been told are great.

According to her press release, they promise that the dancers and Circus acts will be replaced with the traditional Vegas Show with a full orchestra and a band.  Someone please tell me the difference?  You have an orchestra and a band?  It’s Celine and now she will be the center of attention….

The Good News in This:
If she is your thing, you better get your tickets early.  Like Now! They went on sale yesterday and are doing “brisk” business from what I am told.  My French Canadian Tour buddies tell me they are getting hit with a lot of new orders for Vegas bound tours.

She is a Vegas tourist attraction, and love her or hate her, she is what she is and Vegas needs her….  Get Tickets Here

Chill’in on the Furniture

February 4, 2010 by The Vegas Tourist

If its furniture… It’s here.  If your job has anything to do with furniture, you probably had a invite to be here.  Even in this economy and in the furniture market, about 50,000 people found their way here.  What is “here”??  It’s The World Market Center, otherwise known as Las Vegas Furniture Market Winter 2010.  A twice a year event so big they built their own spaces.

They have three building built so far, going to seven by the time they are done.  About 5 million square feet of exhibit space now, be over 12 million when its all built out. It’s that big.  The funny thing is that most of the building sit empty most of the year.  90% of the showrooms are empty or unoccupied between the two shows.

The people we met were all upbeat about the near future of the housing market. There were fewer couch kickers and more people with orders to buy than the previous show.  I enjoy sampling the new designs annd seeing more retro designs than before…  Cool, Man!

So if you are ever wondering what those strange buildings are on the west side of town… Its The World Market Center.
