There is a reason Trace Adkins was voted sexiest male country star and that reason was on full display last night as he performed at the Riviera. Rugged – working man – good looks, a deep gravelly voice, and is an unapologetic red-blooded American male who loves his country, his mom, his wife, his kids and women. And not always in that order.
Now from where I was sitting before the concert, with Sazzy, people watching… I’m figuring that just after the team roping event at the NFR, every pair of tight-fitting Wranglers made a hasty exit from the Thomas & Mack and boot scooted themselves over to the concert. Let’s just say that there was plenty of eye candy for the eye candy!
Trace Knows
The concert was almost un-vegas like. It started right when they told us he would. He hit the stage at 10:10 and he was there to entertain. The 2,800 fans that filled the Royal Pavilion were there to see Trace Adkins. Not a bunch of theatrics, scantily clad dancers or fancy props. There was the stage, a video screen, the band and the man. That was it. And he did not disappoint.
He ripped through his most popular songs, complete with their videos playing in the background. Not stopping long between songs or stopping for idle chit-chat. When he finally did pause, he recognized the flaw in the concert. That his voice wasn’t up to par. Primarily because of the nasty “desert voice” singers get being the dry Las Vegas air. Not that anyone cared, he could be performing in a cave and everyone would have been happy.
He stopped long enough to talk about his momma, his daughters and the man who wrote his latest hit “She thinks we’re just fishing”. From there, he broke into “The Christmas Song” and with his ability to go low and deep with his voice, he did the legendary Burl Ives well with it. Actually made a few of us start to like Christmas music again.
From there, the infamous cowboy hat came off and his ponytail became a long mane of hair. I’m pretty sure a few of the buckle bunnies swooned and collapsed after that. It was at that point he decided to take us back to his barroom days and a couple of 80′s classic rock songs – done his way. Did I mention this guy has a tremendously deep voice??
He ended the show with the party crowd favorite Badonkadonk (Not sure what that is?? Check YouTube). Followed by one encore of “Dirty White Boy”… Just the right song to send us back out to the casino’s with!!
