CES is Almost Here

The Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas

Once the party people have cleared the airports and highways, the tractor trailers and super haulers pull in to set up for the largest convention Vegas hosts.  The Consumer Electronics Show (CES).  January 6-9 at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

This annual convention will host about 120,000 people plus exhibitors, press and VIP’s.  It is closed to the public, but open to anyone involved in the consumer electronics market.  By today’s standards, that covers a lot of potential attendees.

Everyone is here to see, feel, play and gawk at the latest and greatest in consumer electronics.  What you will see in the showrooms and catalogs next fall, will be here this week.  What you thought was high tech today, will look like antiquated junk by the time you walk out of the convention!

This show will pretty much fill up the 2 million square feet of convention space.  Plus temporary buildings in the parking lot plus over flow into the Sands Convention Center, as well as many hotel suites and VIP bungalows.

For Vegas’ watchers, this is celebrity central.  Not so much in the red carpets and fancy openings as it is for the private events and corporate speaking.  Many A-List celebrities and musical acts are booked for parties hosted by the biggest or the newest names in electronics.  This means celebrity spotting gets to be a bit difficult as they move from event to event without the usual entourage or paparazzi, yet worth the effort.

Lest we forget that the annual Adult Video News Show (porn convention) happens the exact same time??  With the who’s-who of porn strutting around town  just adds to the voyeurism aspect of it all this weekend.

I’ll update when I can…. otherwise “Happy New Year”
