LAS VEGAS (June 27, 2011)– Meegan Lancaster, Executive Pastry Chef for Tropicana Las Vegas, has been selected to compete in the National Pastry Team Championship on July 8th and 9th at the JW Marriot Desert Ridge Resort in Phoenix.
As one member of a talented three-person team, Lancaster will concentrate on the degustation portion of the competition, while her teammates Mickey Harden and Paul Padua will handle the sugar and chocolate elements.
A strong contender, Lancaster graduated first in her class from the prestigious Culinary Institute of America with a degree in Baking and Pastry, in addition to earning a Bachelor’s degree in Hotel Administration from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. With 15 years of experience to develop her culinary skill, her innovative approach to pastry and baking has earned her positions at some of the most acclaimed kitchens in Las Vegas. At Tropicana, Lancaster oversees all pastry and baking production for the property’s three well-known restaurants, Biscayne Steak, Sea and Wine, Bacio by Carla Pellegrino and Café Nikki.
“I’m thrilled to have been chosen to compete in this respected competition among some of the most talented pastry chefs in the nation,” said Lancaster. “I’m looking forward to this challenge and am proud to represent Tropicana.”
During the finale of the two-day event, the team will be tasked with the completion of one sugar showpiece, one chocolate showpiece, twelve identical plated desserts, three different flavored chocolate bonbons, one entremets and entremets glace, and finally, three different types of petit gâteau.
The theme for all contestants’ final piece will be Your Favorite Book, subject to the teams’ individual interpretations. The winning team will receive the honor of representing the Unites States as Team USA in the World Pastry Team Championship, along with the grand prize of $24,000.
