Vegas Culture

Oscar Goodman

It’s not really that often that you hear the words Las Vegas and culture in the same sentence.  For some reason it seems that those two words were meant to be apart.  But we do have our moments.  This weekend being one of those moments.

Here you see the honorable Oscar B Goodman in the Helldorado Parade.  Yes, we really do have parades.  Not just marches and protests rallies, but real parades with queens of all varieties waving from the back of pick up trucks, a few mariachi bands and a  SWAT team or two.  And what Las Vegas celebration would be complete without a visit from the Mayor himself??

The Helldorado Celebration started back in 1934 as a way to celebrate Las Vegas’ western heritage.  The celebration died out in 1995.  Only to restart in 2003 minus anything related to the western heritage.  This is the first time in twelve years that they held a rodeo.  Gee, imagine a western celebration with a rodeo in it?  What will they think of next?
