The Pro Bull Riders World Finals (PBR)
October 30 – November 8, 2009 (link)
The PBR was the very first “pro” sporting event we ever covered as The Vegas Tourist. And we were hooked from the first moment we saw the chute open!!
Not only are these all true athletes (bull and man) but the sport itself is true down home slice Americana. They are proud of where they came from and the people they are around. Their patriotism runs deep no matter what country they are from.. They wear their hearts on their sleeves.
The sport itself, true sport. The man/bull who wins, gets paid. Don’t place, you don’t get paid. Get injured, sorry, no paid time off. Get back up and do it again. Yet you always help your fellow competitor whenever possible. No Ego, No Problems….
The Fans are awesome. We meet new fans every year who never saw it before until than. They came out of curiosity and Vegas boredom (or burnout) and ended up extended their vacation to see who won. Some cheer on the riders. Each seem to have their own fan club. Some come to cheer on the bull. They seem to have their own cheering section as well! Either way, they are here to have fun and see one amazing event.
The concept is simple. You strap a man up on top of a 4,000 pound bull, pull the rope and open the chute. All the rider has to do is stay on for eight measly seconds… Then hope the bull did his best to knock you off and you did your best to stay on. Both the bull and the rider get scored.
For the PBR World Finals, the riders and the bulls are not invited here. You earn your way to Vegas. The best men from the International world of Bull Riding and the best bulls come to Las Vegas to see who really is the best in the business.
Each year we cover it live and update frequently at ThePBRLasVegas.com
