Bonnie Springs Ranch 2010

Bonnie Springs Ranch - July 2, 2010

On July 2, 2010 The Vegas Tourist packed up and headed west out to Bonnie Springs Ranch. Our Guide for the day was Joe, who was great at showing us around the ranch, which covers one hundred and fifteen acres. The ranch was built in 1843 where wagon trains stopped on their way to California via the Old Spanish Trail. In 1952, the ranch became a tourist destination, under the care and direction of Al Levinson and his wife Bonnie McGaugh. The town of Old Nevada began in 1970, and today stands as a replica of a 1880’s mining town. The town has saloon, jail house, opera house, cemetery, various other stores, and boarded sidewalks. There is also a petting zoo with wolves, lynx, deer, and peacocks can be admired. Swans and ducks glide undisturbed on the nearby pond. Visitors can also go horseback riding and relax in the hotel with dining and a cocktail lounge. For a trip back in time, drive the short distance of twenty-five miles from Las Vegas, out to Bonnie Springs Ranch. The Old West comes alive, and every minute is an adventure. Thank you to Joe for showing us around and for Bonnie Springs Ranch for a wonderful place to escape the rush of the modern world.

On June 25, 26, 27, 10 the Gold Rush Peruvian Horse Classic was held at the South Point, and The Vegas Tourist was there to bring you all the sights. This year was the Tenth Anniversary, and there were approximately one hundred and eleven horses in attendance. It was a great show, and every year it gets better. The horses and their people are friendly and glad to share stories and information. Peruvian Horses are also known as Peruvian Pasos. These horses originally came to South America in 1531. Peruvian Horses are known for their good temperament and comfortable ride. The Peruvian Paso is referred to as the National Horse of Peru. Thank you to everyone who made the Gold Rush Classic possible, the South Point, and to the horses and their riders. Come with us to see some beautiful horses and meet some wonderful people.

Clinton Anderson Walkabout Tour 2010

G'day and Welcome to Downunder Horsemanship with Clinton Anderson. The Vegas Tourist attended the Clinton Anderson Walkabout Tour at the South Point Equestrian Center June 12 and 13. Clinton Anderson Australian Horse Trainer and Clinician brought his method to Las Vegas, and showed us the partnership that can be formed between a rider and their horse. The South Point was set up differently than when other horse events have been held there. There were almost no vendors on the concourse, which meant there wasn’t mobs of people standing in the way to the arena and the event could be comfortably viewed from the concourse. The arena was split one-third for Downunder Horsemanship merchandise and autograph booth, and the other two-thirds was arena with a round pen. At least fifteen hundred people attended the clinic, which is a great turn out. The lights were dimmed when Clinton was working with a horse, with overhead track lighting providing focus on Clinton and the horse he was working with. Clinton would talk to the horse’s owner to let the audience know why the horse was brought to him. From there Clinton would work with the horse for about an hour and an half, depending on the horse and their needs. This was a great clinic for anyone who wanted to improve not only their skills as a Horseman, but their partnership with their horse. Thank you Clinton Anderson for bringing your methods to Las Vegas.
