Winter time in Vegas means relatives from the frozen tundra come-a-calling! Not saying that’s a problem, just a fact of life living here. Love to see them all and at least we don’t have to plug in the car while we visit!
So I figure what better way to checkout a new show than with complete Vegas show virgins?? We loaded up the Explorer and headed to the V Theater in Planet Hollywood. We went to see the newest show from the creative mind of David Saxe. Vegas! The Show.
My short review: Go See This Show! After seeing other shows that were “The Best” and being greatly disappointed, I like to wait for my group’s reaction before I speak up. All I heard out of my party was “WOW… Yea, WOW!!!! That was an amazing performance!” So I knew it just wasn’t me enjoying the show and thinking he hit a home run.
David Saxe has really done an amazing job assembling an award winning cast that represents a different past Vegas performer or era: Elvis, Sammy, Dean, Sinatra, Sonny and Cher, Tina Turner, Liberace, etc… The show’s amazing talent is complimented by a live big band orchestra (on stage) and some of the most beautiful showgirls you could find.
Long Review: The show actually lives up to its hype and beyond. “VEGAS! THE SHOW recreates the greatest moments in Vegas’ history. This is the story of the most influential and exciting entertainers who made Vegas…” It’s also a show you can bring just about anyone to and know they will be entertained without being offended or embarrassed. Just make sure they are over 18.
Actually it’s not in the V-Theater where the rest of his shows are located, its just down the walk in the old Steve Wyrick Theater. David Saxe took it over when Steve filed for BK. If anyone in Vegas can make money in there, its going to be David Saxe. And he did not disappoint with this show.
The theater is intimate, but not too intimate. It was originally designed for up close magic performances and this plays well as there is not a bad seat in the house. Get a seat towards the middle or back and its perfect to see all the show, enjoy the music and catch the atmosphere he is recreating.
The cast is amazing. You keep wondering where he found them and why some of them don’t have a show of their own yet. Something David Saxe is famous for, finding that hidden gem and giving them a place to shine. This show is loaded with talent that can stand on their own while performing as part of the cast.
When you see them perform, you get the feeling that all of them wanted to be there. They weren’t just smiling and going through the motions while waiting for that final curtain call. They all seemed to be giving it 110% for you.
It’s not often you get to see an amazing cast with a live big band that can rock the house, while entertaining everyone in the party. Where else do you see that in Las Vegas any more?? You really don’t and that’s the point of the show. To remind us of what made Vegas the entertainment capital of the world.
If you have one night for a great show… Vegas! The Show should be high on your list, if not on top.
