Chip Talk

Bugsy Sielgel Chip

If casino chips could talk, this one would be on the International speaking circuit.   What you are looking at is considered one of the Holy Grails of chip collecting.  If you have one of the other seven in your storage locker somewhere, break it out and bring it to Vegas baby!

What makes it so rare??  This little chip was on tables at the grand opening of the Flamingo Resort on the evening of December 26, 1946.  That would be the first time Bugsy Siegel tried to open the joint.  It is one of only eight known to exist that weren’t drilled after they were used.

Currently on display at the 17th annual Casino Chip and Gaming Collectors Club Convention being held this weekend at the South Point Resort.  Trust me, if its casino related, someone collects it and is probably on sale here.  Or being traded, sold or bartered.  Not only casino chips, but room keys, key cards, slot club cards and everything else casino related.

Many of the collectors here have the stories to go with the chips and mementos.  Collections of pictures, post cards and whatever.  Collectors and collections are from all over the world, but the best ones are of course from Las Vegas.  And if its no longer standing, even better for the value.

So check your junk drawer or storage shed and see what you brought back from your first trips to Las Vegas and start hunting for a buyer.  Who knows, you may have the next house payment sitting in your drawer.

One final note, the owner of the “Bugsy chip” will let it go for a measly $30,000 (cash). Not a penny less, so don’t even bother asking.
