Vegas in Boulder City??
July 18, 2009 by The Vegas Tourist

I love Boulder City, it’s a great little get away. But I have a big beef with the famous Coffee Cup Café. They need a Larry Slap for giving your fine town such a black eye.
Boulder City truly is a world away from Las Vegas. Probably one of the most beautiful little cities we have in the Southwestern United States, if not America. Its history and its claim to fame, as well as its existence revolve around Hoover Dam and the people who have called the town home.
Boulder City was built to house all the workers needed to build the new dam. A small town that never lost its charm. That’s what I love about the town. You can walk around the downtown area and feel like it was the 1950’s. Small mom and pop type businesses line Main street. Everyone seems to always be friendly and the service you get at the stores and shops is always personal, genuine and warm.
Than this morning I got to experience The Coffee Cup Café and thought I was transported back to Las Vegas. The food was great, don’t get me wrong there. It is just what you would expect from a small town, old world diner. It’s the service that sucked. Ok, sucked may be too kind of a word for it. Slow would be a huge improvement. Friendly may be an impossible dream.
In Vegas, we are used to rude, unfriendly servers. We are accustomed to being ignored and when served, it seems like they are doing us a huge favor just being there. But it’s not what you would expect when you visit Boulder City. Especially when I counted more people standing behind the counter, twiddling their thumbs, than in front of it.
To the owners of the Coffee Cup Cafe: Take note. Be thankful you have tourists coming into your business. Just down the street you have the closed down Boulder Dam Hotel. So think about it. What happened to them, could happen to any small business.
Other than that, my morning in Boulder City was wonderful. Another reason for tourists to rent a car and get off the Strip! Photos to follow
