Historic Hoover Dam Goes Blue

Being a tour guide and visiting Hoover Dam a few thousand times, you would think I would want to stay away from it on my time off.  Most times you would be right. However, tonite and Thursday night, the historic dam goes Blue (turquoise) in support of the LUNG FORCE initiative and the fight against lung cancer. How could I resist a night time excursion with an offer like that??

I’m not sure if it was the drizzling rain or the fact that they never really promoted it much, but the turnout was light.  While we were there, we saw a few other cars pull in, make the walk up the stairs and out to the middle of the bridge, grab a few photos then leave. If you missed it, you missed a unique experience.  Seeing the dam from atop The Mike O’Callaghan–Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge (Hoover Dam Bypass Bridge) is a memorable event by itself.  To see it at night, bathed in a turquoise blue light is something else and probably won’t happen again.  They are very careful on what happens to the dam.
