Sin City always knows how to celebrate and New Years Eve is the king of all celebrations. For those of you who have never witnesses the year changing under a Vegas sky, let me break it down for you in three parts.
First, you bring in a lot of fencing, cages and barricades. This will be used as an attempt to manage security, direct the flow of wandering drunks and keep everyone as safe as possible.
On top of that, they bring in several hundred port-a-potties, beer trucks and vendor booths. Not sure about the porn slapper. They just get out of the way I guess.
Basically making the strip look like one giant construction zone. Or a continuation of all the fencing around the closed, empty or abandoned projects already on the Strip.
At about 6:30, they start to close the strip to vehicle traffic. Yup, open it all to pedestrian traffic. At about this time, the 315,000 expected drunks begin to congregate. By 9pm, the Strip becomes one large mass of people.
The resorts become their own little encased islands amongst the revelers. They are totally surround by tall fencing, wire cages and security that makes a White House Dinner seem like child’s play. After 10pm; absolutely no admittance without a verifiable working room key for each person. No Exceptions.
Did I mention there would be a lot of people?? They have been coming in since Monday.
Downtown is just as mad. Or bad depending on how you look at it.. 20-30,000 party-goers will be squeezed into the Fremont Street Experience. Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman is scheduled to lead the countdown to the new year.
I will let you know how it all goes later….
