Now This is a Real (tactical) Flashlight !

It’s a Flashlight!

Yes. I am doing a review for a flashlight! I know how that sounds. A review on a flashlight? What can be so important about a simple flashlight?  Well, I asked the same thing when The Fenix company asked me to do a review on it. They said “try it”

So when I received this flashlight last year, I took it out with me offroading.  I used it and liked it.  Then I loaned it to another off-roading friend and they used it when they went camping and almost forgot to give it back. I tried it, used it and I loved it so much it that went straight into my tour/travel bag and it hasn’t left my side very often since. So I guess maybe it’s time for me to do a review of it and tell you why I love it that much!

It’s a really Cool Flashlight!

Ok, let’s get this out of the way. The Fenix TK22 V2.0 Tactical Flashlight is not your ordinary $4.99 flashlight you would buy at the convenience store. This is a more serious flashlight with a bit more of a serious price tag on it. The word “Tactical” is in the name because it is used by people who demand performance and are willing to pay the price for that dependability and superior performance.

When I was asked to do a review of this flashlight, I didn’t give it much thought. It’s a flashlight! But once it was in my hands and I started to use it out on night hikes, on offroad adventures, and even in the garage working on the Jeep. I fell in love with it and it became a part of my everyday travel/ work bag. So it has never really left my side very often since. That’s why it took me almost a year after getting it, to do a review on it. I just made it part of my everyday accessories and I went about my business.

For a flashlight like this, I was not expecting it to be this small and this lightweight. Easy to carry and easy to use. It has 4 brightness settings plus a strobe feature. Up to 1,300 feet of illumination! I can, if I want, light up the desert trails if I need to! The holster works for most belts and shoulder straps and has industrial strength velcro to hold it in place while making it easy to get to when needed in a hurry.

Powerful Features

If you were ever pulled over by Law Enforcement and they flash a bright light into your car, it was probably a light like this one. If it’s used by Law Enforcement and Military people, that says something! I’ve even seen this flashlight being used in movies and television cop shows!

For me, it’s more than the power of the light. It’s the fact that it’s made from A6061-T6 Aluminum and has an IP68 Waterproof rating. Being out here in the desert, that rating means a lot. It means I can drop into 4 feet of water (1.5m) without much worry. It is well protected from dust, dirt, and debris from getting into the body and creating problems. Because of the heat that can come from the light itself as well as the desert heat on equipment, I like that it is also digitally regulated with overheat protection.

It’s a Jeep Thing!

For those of you who know me, you know I am one of those who likes to torture test my equipment! This little light has been on some wonderful adventures. Its been tossed around the Jeep a few hundred times and been passed around to others who needed a quick light to work on their vehicles or to search for lost items in the Jeep or out in the desert at night, and it has never failed to work. As well, it still looks like I just got it out of the box!

Before getting my Jeep, I never really thought much about the equipment I carried in my vehicles because I never ventured too far off the beaten path and I always knew a vehicle rescue would be easy. Now that I do the offroad thing, I know a rescue or a tow would not be an easy thing and I need to carry the right equipment, my view has changed. I am now pickier about what I take along on my trips.

When I go offroad, I want things that I can count on that will work, that will do the job I need them to do. I don’t want to question its dependability and performance. This flashlight is one of those items I can depend on doing its job. This flashlight has proven itself to me several times out on the trail as well as in the garage!
