Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction Returns!

Barrett - Jackson

June in Las Vegas is looking to be a really busy month.  Not only do we say goodbye to the silly mask mandates, but a lot of our favorite shows finally have set their coming back-to-life dates in June!!  Then we have one of my favorite events!  The Barret -Jackson Collector Car Auction.  June 17-19, 2021.

To make it even more exciting, this year the event moves to the swanky new digs at the Las Vegas Convention Center – West Hall. Right there on the Las Vegas Strip! Next to our favorite restaurant, the Peppermill! Can this get any better of an event??

Barrett Jackson Las Vegas 2021

Fans Since Day One

We started this website back in 2006 and in 2007 was the first year they held the Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction in Las Vegas. It started as an experiment, a way to expand the brand outside their home base of Scottsdale, Arizona. For Las Vegas, it was meant to add something interesting and different to the Las Vegas event calendar between Labor Day and the start of the NFR World Finals.  If memory serves me, I think they signed on to hold the auction in Las Vegas for 5 years. To see if it would work!

What was fun was that Craig Jackson, Chairman, and CEO of Barrett-Jackson, was so gracious and open. He did a great interview then passed us around to other people behind the scenes. Letting Sazzy and myself see how it all worked.

We even got a chance at meeting classic car royalty by being in what could be best described as a presentation line to greet the matriarch of the Barrett-Jackson Auction Company and widely considered as the “First Lady of Collector Cars,” Nellie Jackson, as she entered the auction stage area.

Ok, maybe that’s not the real word for it. There was a line of people that had some importance and they all stood, behind a rope as she entered.  They all said their greetings to her. Not sure if she responded to any of them… But everyone in the line was all giddy that they got to “meet” her.

Trying Not to Drool

For the past couple of weeks, they have been sending out periodic updates on some of the vehicles and automobile memorabilia that will be crossing the auction block.  It’s not always just about the vehicle!

Barrett Jackson Las Vegas

For some of us car buffs, it’s almost better than sneaking peeks at your dad’s Playboy collection.  Let me just say that some serious pieces of chrome will be changing hands in Las Vegas, and the great thing is you can be there!

That’s the cool thing. Ok, so you may not be able to buy that car from your youth that you paid $150 for because today, in restored mint condition, it will sell for one hundred grand.  But you can walk the hall and look at all the cars in the lineup before they hit the auction block.

They also have vendors there as well that can help you in restoring that project car that’s been sitting in your backyard for the last decade. The one you promised the wife you will finish maybe next year!

Best Reason to Go?

I will tell you this.  I have fun there because of the people you will meet.  Just walking the lanes of cars setting up to hit the auction block, you get to talk to some wonderful people who like to talk about cars. Maybe the car that’s about to go up or maybe about a car in the line-up.  You may be standing and admiring some classic car, suddenly somebody walks up and starts to talk about it or what the car reminds them of.  Maybe even get to meet the owner and get their side on why that car or Jeep. And some of the stories will surprise you!

Let me know if you will be there, maybe we can meet up!

Barrett-Jackson Returns to Las Vegas!

It’s almost September and that means one of my favorite events of the year will soon be here.  What is it?? The 11th Annual Barrett-Jackson Las Vegas Collector Car Auction (also plenty of collector automobile-related memorabilia!).  The dates are September 27 -29, 2018 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center. If you love cars of almost all eras and types, as well as some really cool auto-related memorabilia, you need to be here in Vegas and attend this event!

I have attended almost every one of them and at the first one, we even got to interview the son of one of the founders, Craig Jackson.  The podcast is in archives and I will find it! The cool thing was that they never intended this to be such a long-term annual event.  But Las Vegas is the perfect place to blend car lovers, car collectors, and automobile memorabilia to buy and sell!!  Eleven years later and each year it gets bigger and better.

No buying?  Ok, but wouldn’t it be fun to see what your first car would be worth today? Want to see and even touch your dream car? I’m betting it will be here.  Seriously. Walk the rows of all the cars before and after they go on the block.  Get a bidding number and see what you can buy.  All vehicles will sell, no reserve!

As always, the Las Vegas auction will feature a spectacular docket of collector vehicles, including supercars, exotics, popular American muscle cars, and customs, as well as hundreds of authentic automobilia items selling at No Reserve. This year’s Las Vegas Auction will also continue Barrett-Jackson’s first yearlong charity initiative, Driven Hearts, dedicated to raising money and awareness for the American Heart Association.  Every year, they auction off several high end, limited edition cars with all the proceeds going to the charity.

The gates open on Thursday, Sept. 27, at 8 a.m. In addition to the collector car and automobilia auctions, visitors can also experience exciting thrill rides along with a wide variety of interactive exhibits and activities, including the popular Behind the Hobby Collector Car Symposiums, during the event.

Barrett-Jackson, The World’s Greatest Collector Car Auctions®, is set to light up The Strip during its 9th Annual Las Vegas Auction at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino. The Las Vegas Auction will feature a new event layout and the docket is heating up with an incredible lineup of supercars, American muscle, hot rods and customs, including over 80 vehicles from the Tammy Allen Collection.

“To give our guests an even greater Barrett-Jackson experience, we’re consolidating the auction, our sponsors and exhibitors, as well as the display area for auction cars into one building at Mandalay Bay. This will give our fans more time to preview our amazing docket, shop and be a part of the auction action throughout the three-day weekend.” – Craig Jackson, chairman and CEO of Barrett-Jackson

Having listened to bidders, consignors and fans alike, Barrett-Jackson has taken steps to make the event more convenient and enjoyable for all involved. The event, including all of the excitement from the auction block, exhibitors, and auction car displays, will take over the convention center space on the south end of the property. Adjacent to this space and immediately out the doors from the auction arena will be Chevrolet Ride ’N Drives and Dodge Thrill Rides.

This year’s Las Vegas Auction will also be home to the Tammy Allen Collection. Made up of more than 80 vehicles that will cross the block at No Reserve, the collection features some incredible customs, hot rods and high-performance vehicles. Included in the Collection is the highly anticipated 1950 Mercury custom, “Wasabi” (preview). Customized by hall of fame builder Dick Dean, known as the “Sultan of Chop,” the car has had a complete show-quality, two-year, no-expense-spared restoration, with over 2,000 hours invested in the build.

“Our Las Vegas Auction has been an incredible experience for our guests over the last nine years,” said Steve Davis, president of Barrett-Jackson. “Not only is this year’s docket shaping up to include truly outstanding vehicles, but our new auction layout is going to really amplify the Barrett-Jackson experience.”

Barrett Jackson Collector Car Auction in Las Vegas

Some people call it the third annual Barrett Jackson Collector Car Auction in Las Vegas while some of us just call it what it is….  Car P*rn!!

To browse the lanes filled with some of the finest examples of automotive beauty ever created took a lot of restraint.  To know all these beautiful things of metal are there for the taking. Not really there for the taking…. You do need a bank letter of credit or a nice bank account in order to bid.

If not bidding, you could at least look, ogle and drool.  And there was plenty of that in the display area. Everything from almost every era of cars, trucks and specialty were sold over three days, all to the highest bidder.  No reserve, nothing was held back.

As an example, I was on the auction block when this sample Detroit’s best came across the block.  A 1970 Ford Mustang 302 Boss.  Delicious!!  And it went for a princely sum of $70,000…

It never fails;  Take me out somewhere and I will find the people from Minnesota.  Here I found a couple from the frozen tundra of Minnesota who were trying to figure out where they will be putting this 1963 Thunderbird Convertible when they get it back home.  They invited me to stop by when I am back home for a test drive to corner Dairy Queen…

The Barrett-Jackson collector car auction is not just for muscle cars or sports cars, there is something for just about everyone.  With cars selling for under $5,000 to over $100,000.

Here we have a nice 1966 Ford Bronco.  From that era before fancy SUV’s or “utility” vehicles with designer name plates and cushy insides.  Nope, this is when they made trucks to work hard, last long and go off roads.  Not just to the nearest Starbucks!

Three days just isn’t enough…. There was just so much to drool over.  I am sure they had mopping crews operating overtime…   Now I have to wait until next year.

A new Podcast?? Ok, it’s been a little while since the last podcast. No real good reason other than life has been a bit busy and schedules need to align… And now they have.

Just in time for the big secret to get out to the world… Yup, Mark is looking for a new Co-host. Not for The Vegas Tourist… But for … well, you really need to listen to the podcast to know what for.

Than we have news that Garth Brooks was purchased by Steve Wynn. So he is coming out of retirement and gets a jet. The Barrett-Jackson Car Auction was a success and Mark has a great interview with the Craig Jackson, son of one of the founders of the company. Plus Sazzy had a great time shooting the SNORE 250 dirt race…

That should be about it….
